    Octopus Rig

    I rigged this octopus for the Cadbury-commercial. The biggest task here was to get absolute control over the twist and stretch along the whole tentacle. And the biggest problem with tentacles is to avoid flipping behaviour when they curl up which can't be done by any simple/advanced spline-IK.

    This rig was build for the Sparklefinder-commercial. It features many ideas of Jason Schleifers "Animator Friendly Rigging"-tutorials.

    The character was a redesign of Andrew Brooks. This is my modelled interpretation of his brilliant drawings.

    The plant was build by repetitive use of a single base-module (bit of stem with 2 leaves). It comes with a snipet of predefined animation and can be varied by mel-scripts. All elements are connected and driven along splines.

    Babyhead Variations

    Software : Maya

    This is a turntable of seven babyheads. They were used for the "Evian"-commercial for babies in the background. The variations are modelled using the same base-geometry and therefore can be blended together to create more variations.

About work

I started working with Softimage 3D back in 1996, made the logical step up to XSI and now exclusivly in Maya since I moved to London.

In recent years I focused more and more on the technical aspects of computer-animation and I am keen to provide quality rigs and tools/scripts that support all the needs of the animators I work with. I highly value the exchange of ideas with them and am convinced that this communication is essential for getting the best results.

I'm also very interested in pipeline-issues.
